large download management software
If you do large downloads, getright is the best software to have !!! It handles the connection interruptions, multiple downloads,... A must have if you have a dial-up modem, in order to avoid painful frustrations !!!

Concerning peer-to-peer systems, to exchange music and movie files, there are tons of great systems: www.kazaa.com indeed, but also www.musicity.com (Morpheus), there is edonkey2000, gnutella, bearshare,...
